Masking tape is your best friend, It comes in handy most of the time. I used alot of it everytime i spray paint. But I wonder if anyone uses frogtapes for thier custom paint job?

I use the blue painters tape (brand name makes a difference!) for main full coverage and for all the edge work I use ONLY hobby masking tape which has a way more fine edge for keeping every little bit of paint OUT. Do your edges with the hobby tape and then the main areas with the painters tape.
A thing that's better than anytape you'll find is frog tape, it's a 9 dollar roll of specialized painters tape with a gel called 'paint block' that makes solid edges everysingle time with no leakage
I use Tamiya masking tape, which is on the expensive side (duh, it's Tamiya!) compared to the other brands.
Tried painter's tape once, but tore off the underlying paint job. The tape's glue was way too strong for that sort of thing.
If that's the case, you can always take your piece of tape and apply it to a smooth surface, like a cd case. Pull it off gently and repeat two or three times. That way the tape won't cling to your custom that strongly anymore.
We sell frogtape at my work and it's great, I get employee discount on it and all the reviews I've heard and personal experience it's perfect because of the paintblock
Blue masking tape is sorta middle of the road, though I recommend the "delicate surfaces" variety, the adhesive is not quite as strong. It doesn't bleed either, like most other paper tapes do. If you really want the good stuff, go to an automotive paint supplier and get the green masking tape, it's meant to withstand lacquers and urethanes while leaving a sharp, clean edge.
Never, under any circumstances should you use the white tape, you'll most likely regret it sooner than later. Was forced to use it today for industrial use, ended up spending more time getting it off than the actual work.
Yeah, i noticed the paintblock claims on the side but wasnt sure whether this was any better than the hobby specialist tapes, primarily as ive only seen it in hardware stores. Although it might be great for joe tradesman, I wasnt sure whether the finer applications we use it for would be suited.
That said, the hardware store is where i get my rustoleum plastic primer <3
I don't think you need to get too crazy guys, I only use the tamiya hobby tape and regular blue painters tape though the delicate surface is a good idea. I did my seeker stripes with that tape and it's straight as an arrow, not even the slightest bleed.
