Default Painting ( and not getting the paint on parts you dont)

ok, this is a silly question. Im working on a project right now, and when i start painting, i bi-accidentially paint a wrong part, or my finger slips and gets on a piece i dont mean too! its very annoying and time consuming. How do i NOT get paint on parts on not paiting yet. I heard something like "taping off". what is is this process? does anyone have any pictures of this, video, anything! P.S. Im very visual, so a video would help extremley. PLease help **cough cough Jin** **cough cough Frenzy_Rumble*** but ANY help from anyone would be highly appreciated. thanks brothers!

masking tape is ur best friend. u can buy it from wal mart, dollar tree, lowes, u name it.

just apply where u dont want to paint, and paint the rest. it's very handy

Tape is a great choice. Also don't rush. You may not even think you are rushing but you may be. I also use Micromask by Microscale (I think). It brushes on with a consistency more liquid than Elmers glue. Once dry you can paint over it and then simply peel off the mask. Very handy stuff. Doesn't harm any existing paint either.

    What the pros said ^^^

In addition, when i really don't allow any mistakes to be done, i will start using brushes with finer tips and paint "SLOWLY", it helps heaps

    Cheers,

yeah, i tape off and use finer tip and smaller brushes especially when I'm close to another color. I also sit in a very stable place where nothing can interrupt or touch me (like a pet). I use multiple washes so my mistakes are easily whipped clean with a wet napkin.

Similar to Big Hank, I'll use a little liquid latex as a masking agent when I really need to cover something that I don't want painted. It's very thin, spreads easily, goes on smooth, peels off easily when you're finished - and maybe most important, cheap. lol

MASKOL by Humbrol used it on a monger, works really well, Just make sure to leave a piece of paper embedded in it so that you have something to pull.

Here's a video of me applying paint to a figure with parts already masked.

    and me removing the mask.

I noticed a HUGE difference before and after I started doing the masking.

one other thing you can invest in is a liquid masking. Spray it on, let it dry, cut away access, and paint your stuff. Great thing liquid masking is. Don't get me wrong, masking tape will work just dandy too, but for more delicate parts, like chrome, that tape could pull the material off of, liquid mask that stuff man. One rough pull with tape, and chrome goes buh bye!

Also, Solrac, our video reminds me that I need to get my primus and unicron out of storage..
